Individual needs and choices

Residents liaise with their keyworker to discuss their likes, interests, goals and aspirations. These could include starting a college course, having a job, wanting to cook or just having the confidence to go to the shops.
Staff support residents towards achieving their goals. This may require social stories, education on social rules, understanding body language and facial expressions. Support also includes practical skills such as independent living, budgeting, food preparation, shopping and self care. We can also help access college courses and support clients to find a meaningful job.

Care plan records continue to be of an excellent standard and people are actively consulted about their care and aspirations. One person wrote, ‘I am always making decisions about what I want to do, this helps me to feel like I lead a productive life.’ We noted that people are encouraged to become as independent as possible…

Lifestyle

We support residents to use local community amenities to develop their social awareness and engagement with the local community.

Eynesbury House is located in St Neots, a busy town environment with lots of amenities on its door step. Our residents enjoy using the local shops, colleges, leisure centres, bars, cinema, bowling alley and much more. Initially residents are supported in the community with a keyworker, but as they demonstrate their coping abilities and social awareness skills they are able to access the community independently.

Eynesbury House ‘Meets the residents’ individual needs and promotes equality and diversity within the home.  People are provided with a range of opportunities to live an excellent quality of life.

Employment and Education

Residents are supported by staff to develop social, vocational, educational and leisure skills in the community and within the home.
Currently some of the residents at Eynesbury House are undertaking:
• BTEC National Diplomas at Cambridge Regional College
• BTEC National Diplomas in computing at Bedford College
• Basic Living & Employment skills courses at Barnfield College
• Photography, computing and life skills courses at Huntingdonshire Regional College

Residents are encouraged to develop work skills through links with the National Autistic Society, Prospects and Connexions who run employment workshops (writing CVs, interview techniques, etc). Current residents at Eynesbury House are working at a fast food restaurant and a local garden centre.

Staff identify with residents where they feel they might face difficulties, in the home, community, work or college. Using problem-solving techniques and the development of coping mechanisms, residents are better prepared to reduce their anxieties and to be confident in social situations.
