Fairford Court

Fairford Court is a purpose built residential care home situated in lively Friern Barnet.  Fairford Court also provides specially designed move-on services in its supported living accommodation for people with Asperger syndrome.

Residents are supported to develop their independent living and social awareness skills to enable them to move to more independent living when appropriate.

Individual needs and choices

Residents liaise with their keyworker to discuss their likes, interests, goals and aspirations. These could include starting a college course, having a job, wanting to cook or just having the confidence to go to the shops.

Staff support residents towards achieving their goals. This may require social stories, education on social rules, understanding body language and facial expressions. Support also includes practical skills such as independent living, budgeting, food preparation, shopping and self care. We can also help access college courses and support clients to find a meaningful job.
Every resident’s personal needs and choices are detailed in their person centred care plan, the plan is constantly evolving to reflect changing needs and abilities.

Lifestyle

We support residents to use local amenities to develop their social awareness and engagement with the local community.
Fairford Court is located in Friern Barnet, a busy town environment with lots of amenities on its door step. Our residents enjoy using the local shops, colleges, leisure centres, bars, cinema, bowling alley and much more.

Initially residents are supported in the community with a keyworker, but as they demonstrate their coping abilities and social awareness skills they are able to access the community independently.  We understand the importance of rehabilitating the residents into the local community, to this end residents are encouraged to participate and socialise in activities outside Fairford Court.

Employment and Education

Residents are supported by staff to develop social, vocational, educational and leisure skills in the community and within the home.

Each resident undertakes a thorough assessment to determine their interests, abilities and deficits, then in partnership with the individual, we identify appropriate educational, vocational, and apprenticeship opportunities.

Residents are encouraged to develop work skills through links with the National Autistic Society, Prospects and Connexions who run employment workshops (writing CVs, interview techniques, etc).

Staff identify residents who they feel they might face difficulties, in the home, community, work or college. Using problem-solving techniques and the development of coping mechanisms, residents are better prepared to reduce their anxieties and to be confident in social situations.

Personal & Healthcare support plans

Residents are supported and encouraged to provide their own personal care. Staff may remind or verbally prompt the resident to do certain tasks. The home can also provide visual prompts within the bathrooms, kitchen or bedrooms to remind residents what they need to do with the use of clear and concise communication techniques that residents understand.

We recognize that there is a need for Primary Health Care as well as the care and support provided as a consequence of their Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Residents are linked up with health care provision in the community such as G.P.services and dentistry etc.

Residents are supported by Brookdale Care’s Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT). The MDT works with each resident to identify their difficulties, anxieties, impairments and develops the therapeutic strategy to help the resident to work through them. This may include Social Anxieties, Social Communication difficulties, Depression, Mental illness, OCD and more.

Environmental

We aim to provide a comfortable home for each and every resident.  We encourage each resident to personalise and decorate their room to make them feel more at home, they also have the option of bringing a TV, DVD and computer.  Residents have a key role in the decoration and furnishing of the communal areas of the home.
