Jonathan Sherry is making the most of his life – what are you doing with yours?
Jonathan is now living in his own flat and is undertaking an NVQ in Food Preparation at Barnet College to follow his dream of becoming a top chef.
Thanks to the support by Jonathan’s family and the specialist staff team at Kemble House (a residential care home for adults with Asperger syndrome), Jonathan is now able to use public transport by himself to get to college and the local shops.
Since joining Kemble House 3 years ago Jonathan has engaged with the staff and therapeutic team who have worked holistically to improve his confidence, communication and social interaction skills.
Initially Jonathan studied Numeracy and Literacy, which he passed and received a certificate for. He then went on to do ‘Entry level Catering’ which he also passed; this allowed him to go on to NVQ Level 1 in Food Preparation.
He attends mainstream college and this has given him the opportunity to mix with lots of people outside of Kemble house, improving his social skills and importantly having positive experiences in the community.
Jonathan has also been working hard to improve his independent living skills including, budgeting, menu planning, shopping, self care and washing. He has now progressed through Residential Care onto Supported Living and is now living in his own studio flat receiving outreach support and is doing really well.
