Zoé Dixon - Trainee Counselling Psychologist
Meet the team - 18 July 2011
My name is Zoé Dixon, I am a Trainee Counselling Psychologist, about to enter the final year of my training in the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.
I have been working at Brookdale for two and a half years. I work in an integrative approach, incorporating person centered therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and existential therapy philosophies. I work with clients across the spectrum of autism.
I work within the residential homes, individually with clients for therapy sessions, and with the multi disciplinary team. I attend multi disciplinary meetings, Care Programme Approach review meetings and professionals meetings regarding particular issues.
I work in a collaborative way with each client, on issues such as depression, anxiety, self esteem, self concept, psychosis and suicidal ideation. My ethos is that each person is individual, and therefore approach each case in this way, learning form each client about themselves and what they consider to be their problem, incorporating educational aspects if necessary.
I have presented a poster at the British Psychological Society’s Division of Counselling Psychology annual conference for two consecutive years.
My main areas of interest are relationships, self esteem and self concept, and eating disorders. I am conducting research into couples and eating disorders for my final year thesis.
