Dr Kate Baxter - Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Baxter is a Consultant Psychiatrist who works part time based at Milton Park.
She studied at Cambridge University and King’s College London and qualified as a doctor in 1998. Her core psychiatry training was at the South London and Maudsley, and she returned to the Eastern region to complete her Learning Disability Psychiatry training in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.
Her interest in neurodevelopmental disorders began before starting medical school, when she worked in a number of residential and supported living settings for adults with a range of disabilities, both in the UK and overseas. This developed throughout her psychiatric training by taking a special interest in people with autism and Asperger’s syndrome, with and without associated learning disabilities and of all ages.
She worked for 2 years as a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in a specialist neurodevelopmental disabilities child and adolescent mental health service in Hertfordshire before making the move to join Brookdale care in 2011.
Her research interests have been in the developmental of mental health services for young people with autism and young people with learning disabilities, and in making the transition to adult services.
