Milton Park Hospital - The Activity and
Resource Centre
The Activity and Resource centre at Milton Park Hospital revolves around Skill Development and Empowerment for our patients with autism and Asperger syndrome.
Milton Park Hospital is committed to providing opportunities for our patients to explore new skills and activities within the hospital and local community. Activities may be educational, vocational, leisure or therapeutic based and involve 1-2-1 or group work.
The activities arranged from the resource centre are designed to support the engagement, development of Independent living, communication and social awareness skills, as well as their self confidence and prepare patients for transition onto community based living.
The Resource Centre incorporates:
- Gym
- Arts & crafts room
- Games room
- IT suite
- Pool room
- Patient kitchen
- Relaxation and sensory rooms
The Resource Centre also organises frequent themed events and has a number of clubs that are run by the patients. You can see many of the activities in the Gallery Section.
Examples of some of our diverse groups that patients can join:
Health and well being group
The day centre also offers a group session to discuss and promote health and well being.
Topics can include dental care, health care, exercise /physical well being, sleep, skin, hair, self esteem etc. Each week staff will facilitate a discussion on a new topic; you can join in the discussion and share your knowledge and understanding. You will also have the chance to try things that are related to the subject, for example, different types of mouth wash.
Staff encourage patients to understand the benefits of leading a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle whilst staying at the hospital and to teach them the skills required to maintain one.
Community Group
This group meets every week with the aim of contributing something back into our local community.
This group has been well received by our local residents who have thanked us for litter picking, leaflet dropping, local gardening and recycling. We meet every Thursday from 1-3pm.
Representatives from Milton Park Hospital also attend the Wyboston Resident’s Meetings to provide information on new developments within the hospital and to enable constant open channels of communication. We also contribute to the Residents Newsletter.
