When the BBC Three documentary The Autistic Me, which followed the lives of three young people living with Autism and Asperger syndrome, was broadcast last year we said
“The programme makers and especially the three young people living with Autism and Asperger syndrome featured in the documentary are to be congratulated on aiding public understanding of Autism and associated Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), which affect one in every hundred people in the UK”

So we are pleased to see that a number of new TV programmes about autism are being broadcast in April and May. These shows highlight the variety of skills, abilities and difficulties that young people and adults on the Autistic Spectrum have and how having autism and asperger syndrome can affect every aspect of their, and their families lives.
Young, Autistic and Stagestruck, currently airing on Mondays at 8pm on Channel 4, follows a group of adolescents with autism as they are brought together to produce a drama production. It also follows the children and young people in their daily lives and gives a good insight into the difficulties faced by people with autism and their parents.

On 22 April at 9pm, BBC3 will launch a new season of autism programmes following the popularity of The Autistic Me.
The first film The Autistic Me: One Year On revisits the people who were in the original documentary to see how their lives have progressed.
Scenes in the documentary series include a meeting with Aron Glasser a young man who lives in Hertfordshire and whose artwork we have featured on our website.
