Brookdale Care was proud to sponsor the Learning Disability category at Community Care’s Annual Awards held in London on 20th December 2005. The awards celebrate and reward the work of social care professionals across the UK and highlight the positive work that takes place every day.
The eventual winner for the Learning Disability category was Stars in the Sky by Haringey Association for Independent Living, who received £5,000 toward their future projects. Stars in the Sky is a dating and friendship service for adults with learning difficulties. Stars in the Sky was founded by Haringey residents Lolita Jones and Pauline Geipel after they realised the difficulties they and fellow service users at Haringey Association for Independent Living (HAIL) were having meeting new people.
Stars in the Sky eventually went on to win the Best in Show project over all other entrants and received an additional £10,000 to continue their good cause.
