Delivering Outstanding Forensic Mental Health Services
Forensic mental health is a complex and specialist service area, going through unprecedented times. The Bradley Review has intensified the drive for offenders with serious mental health issues to be treated in an appropriate secure care environment instead of prison.
With the increasing pressure to develop the systems of care needed to divert offenders into forensic mental health services, public sector funding cuts and a drastic increase in prison population, what will the effect be on forensic mental health services?
Brookdale Care is attending this conference, on Thursday 8 July, as we are committed to improving the quality of care and support for adults with autism and Asperger syndrome.
At Brookdale Care we have worked with numerous clients with autism and Asperger syndrome who have been referred to us when they’re in a police cell, awaiting a court appearance, in prison or a medium secure hospital facility. Many of these individuals would not be involved with the criminal justice system if they had received appropriate early intervention to enable them to understand their condition, to develop coping strategies to reduce anxieties and given the tools to understand social situations and how to act appropriately.
Within our hospital care environment we provide specialist clinical intervention to adults with autism and Asperger syndrome. The clinical team work with all patients to devise robust person centered care plans to effectively manage and reduce risk, to encourage patients to engage with the clinical, therapeutic and resource team and support the development of independent living and social awareness skills to create positive outcomes and good emotional wellbeing.
