Implementing the Adult Autism Strategy

Posted: 2010-05-13 | Venue: ORT House Conference Centre London NW1

Preparing for and Implementing the Adult Autism Strategy
under the Autism Act (2009)

2010 is the year of Autism.  Following pressure from the autism community and in recognition of their needs the Autism Act was passed and became the first piece of legislation designed to set out specific requirements and provisions for adults with Autism.  The strategy paper and delivery guidelines set out a number of key areas where local authorities will be required to act.

Brookdale Care is sponsoring this Adult Autism Strategy conference that's been organised by Pavilion.  The conference on Tuesday 29th June, is bringing together leading experts to discuss the central issues and practical management required to implement the Adult Autism Strategy.

Specialist talks from leading experts, including:
• Elaine Hill, National Implementation Manager for National Autism Strategy
• Dr Jane McCarthy, Clinical Lead, National Autism Strategy
• Carol Povey, Director of the Centre for Autism, National Autistic Society
• Christopher Mitchell, Team Manager, Nottinghamshire Adults with Aspergers Team
• David Walden, Director of Adult Services & Regional Development, SCIE

Exploring the following topics
• Understanding the key areas for development arising from the Adult Autism Strategy
• Explore how the personalisation of services will be delivered, in particular through employment, financial control and local services
• The need for changing and improving awareness of autism within the public sector and the wider public
• Transition planning – understanding the statutory requirements

We hope that you can join us at this stimulating conference for the exchange of exciting new ideas and privileged access to current thinking from leading academics and policy makers in the field. You will leave with fresh ideas about how to develop effective services and how to deliver fulfilling and rewarding lives for adults with autism.
