NAS Cambridge Professional Launch

Posted: 2010-01-29 | Venue: Cambridge

Brookdale Care recently supported the Cambridge NAS at their Professional Launch event on 29th January at the Meadows Community Centre in Cambridge. This launch and networking event was aimed at all members of the professional community involved in work with people on the autistic spectrum.

The event was well supported with over 70 professionals attending including delegates from Cambridgeshire County Council, the voluntary sector, schools and children’s centres. Leading public figures including Mr. David Howarth, MP for Cambridge, and Councillor Ross McPherson, the Mayor of Cambridge, also supported the event to hear the new NAS branch’s vision and strategy for the future.

Several influential figures within the ASD community gave insightful and informative presentations. Robert Pritchett, Head of the Regional Transformation at the National Autistic Society, gave a presentation highlighting the importance of the local branch network to the success of the NAS.

Mark Ty-Wharton, who has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, gave an excellent and frank account of the difficulties and sadness that can exist for children and adults with autism. He also explained how a little understanding could go a long way in improving the lives of people with autism.
