Transforming Forensic Mental Health

Posted: 2009-05-19 | Venue: Birmingham

Brookdale Care are excited to be exhibiting at Transforming Forensic Mental Health Conference on 7th July.

At Milton Park Hospital, the UKs first purpose built hospital for adults with ASD, we have seen an increase in the number of people with Asperger syndrome being referred to our secure hospital services following an incident with the police, as a part of a court diversion scheme or being transferred from a prison environment.

Many of these individuals have failed to have appropriate clinical and therapeutic intervention before the alleged incidence, did not have the capacity to be aware of their crime and their condition was not recognised by the Criminal Justice System.

We believe that it is vitally important that people with autism and Asperger syndrome receive the specialist therapeutic care and understanding they require to lead full and productive lives.  Clinicians need to recognise how Asperger syndrome presents in individuals and how this can mask, distort or replicate other mental health conditions.

Forensic mental health pathways have seen a raft of new developments, from policy directions to treatment options and transforming ways of working. In response to this, Health Service Journal has put together a conference focussing on the latest information in forensic mental health service delivery – from the Bradley Review to the role of Quality Networks; from improving partnership working to developing World Class Commissioning practices in a forensic mental health setting.

Focused sessions will address developments in the management of Personality Disorder, the importance of physical health care and developing specialist forensic mental health services.

Through a mixture of high-level insights from leading players, and best practice case studies this essential conference will examine:

  • The latest DH guidance for forensic mental health services
  • The outcomes of the Bradley Review and what these will mean for service delivery
  • The important role Quality Networks will play in forensic mental health services
  • The implications of Darzi’s next stage review when applied to a forensic setting
  • Strategies for improving partnership working and transfer between forensic mental health service tiers
  • The application of Commissioning for Quality and Innovation (CQUIN) in a forensic setting
  • What can be done to overcome the complexities of tariff development for forensic mental health services
  • What more can be done to support and develop the forensic mental health workforce to meet the needs of an evolving service
  • How to improve outcomes for patients in a forensic setting with Personality Disorders
  • Innovative strategies for improving the physical health of patients in a forensic setting
  • How to develop fit-for-purpose women’s forensic mental health services
