Brookdale’s Milton Park Hospital, located near Wyboston in Bedfordshire, offers accommodation for adults with a primary diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including Autism and Asperger syndrome. Clients may be detained under the Mental Health Act, have a forensic history, require secure accommodation or a period of assessment and treatment within a hospital environment.
Milton Park hospital offers safe and secure accommodation. Each patient has their own en-suite bedroom with toilet and shower facilities, with each unit having its own kitchen, dining room, quiet room and lounge with satellite TV. The aim is to provide a secure and comfortable environment for people with ASD, with care and support provided by a truly impressive specialist ASD clinical team.
The attractive design Milton Park hospital is not typical of traditional secure environments. The appearance is of a high quality housing development built in a rural style without boundary fences etc. However, security is high with a focus on procedural security and good physical security within the small living units.
The Gifford Centre offers professional tailored educational assessments, leisure and life skill programmes to all of our residents. This provision is coordinated by our Occupational Therapists which enables us to support, guide, instruct and help prepare them for the next stage of their lives.
The aim is to promote and maximise potential on their pathway to greater independence. These activities are planned around the interests and capabilities of individual clients and are arranged during the day, evening and weekends to ensure that a structured timetable is achieved.
Activities include occupational therapy, educational opportunities, life and work skills and group activities. The centre has been specifically designed so that vulnerable persons and single sex groups may use the facilities without coming into contact with other patient groups.
The Gifford Centre will hold evening and weekend Asperger's Clubs for Brookdale Care's residents and non-residents. This will give people diagnosed with Asperger syndrome an opportunity to meet in a safe and controlled environment. Brookdale Care will also be holding support and training groups for parents and carers of people with ASD.
