Our Homes for Autism and Mild / Moderate Learning Disabilities

For individuals with Autism and mild / moderate learning disabilities, Brookdale Care provide a specialised environment to help each resident reach their full potential.  Staff are specially trained in autism and associated difficulties and are able to assist residents in achieving their goals and aspirations.

Every resident has a person centred care plan that describes how the individual wants to be supported and where they need support.  Residents receive input from the therapeutic team including the use of social stories (to explain a new situation, the process of doing something, i.e. getting dressed etc), education on social rules, understanding body language and facial expressions.

Support may also include practical skills such as independent living, budgeting, food preparation, shopping and self care.

Residents may need further support to attend college placements or to be actively involved in their local community and the high staff ratios within our homes ensure this is a reality.  All the homes are furnished and decorated to meet the needs of the residents, this includes the use of augmented communication for all information displayed in the home and relevant to the residents.  Every resident works with the keyworker to develop a weekly structured timetable that includes all their activities within the home and community.  The timetable and other important information (e.g. menus, and notice boards) are augmented to be in a format that the resident can comprehend (i.e. pictures, photos or words).
