Elm House is a large Victorian house that has been converted to meet the challenging needs of adults with Asperger Syndrome and High functioning Autism.
The home has been divided into two 6 bedroom units that operate independently, each with their own Kitchen, living, dining room, conservatory, garden and single bedrooms.
Residents are supported to develop their independent living and social awareness skills to enable them to move to more independent living when appropriate.
Elm House provides residents with a high quality and coordinated package of care and support to ensure independence and lifestyle choices are maximised as much as possible.
Residents liaise with their keyworker to discuss their likes, dislikes interests and aspirations. This forms the basis of the individual care plan. Residents are then supported by the home staff to fulfil their interests and work towards reaching their aspirations.
Care plans are presented in a person centred format giving clear guidance and to ensure that individual service users support needs and lifestyle preferences are being met.
“A wide range of community contacts are available to service users and staff offer support and encouragement. Holidays to Florida and Centre Parcs were enjoyed by a number of service users and holidays. There are regular trips to theatres and music events throughout the year at venues in Cambridge and London”. †
We support residents to use local community amenities to develop their social awareness and engagement with the local community. These include the leisure centre, shops, library and religious buildings etc.

Residents are supported by staff to develop social, vocational, educational and leisure skills in the community and within the home.

We encourage residents to develop work skills through linking with the National Autistic Society who run employment workshops (writing CVs, interview techniques, etc), Prospects and Connections. A number of residents at Elm House are in supported employment and volunteer employment.

“Each service users has a personal daily timetable regarding daily activities which is recorded in their care plan. Service users are assisted to access GP and outpatient appointments where necessary”.†
Residents are supported by Brookdale Care’s Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT). The MDT works with each resident to identify their difficulties, anxieties, impairments and develops the therapeutic strategy to help the resident to work through them. This may include Social Anxieties, Social Communication difficulties, Depression, Mental illness, OCD, and more.

Residents are encouraged and supported to clean their own rooms and do their laundry, time is allocated on their timetables for cleaning communal areas of the home clean and tidy.

Residents are supported by a committed staff team who are trained in ASD. The home has a Registered Home Manager, Team Leader, Senior Support Worker and Support Workers. Home Managers are supported by the Training and Development Academy to ensure that all staff are trained and qualified to fulfil their role within the home.
