JOB DESCRIPTION

 

CARE STAFF

 

POST TITLE:                Healthcare Assistant

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:      Senior Healthcare Assistant / Nurse Practitioner

 

ACCOUNTABLE TO:      Clinical Manager

 

LOCATION:                   Park Independent Hospital

                                     Wyboston, Bedfordshire

 

HOURS:                        37.5 hours per week, including weekends. 

                                     Shift work on a rota basis, to include day

                                     and night shifts.

 

PAY:                               £8.47 per hour

 

AIMS:

 

1.       To assist the clinical team in providing a high quality responsive service to patients with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) whilst maintaining respect and dignity at all times.

 

2.       To ensure that the aims and objectives of the hospital are met at all times and to undertake direct or indirect care to a group of patients or a patient, as part of the team, under the supervision of the Senior Health Care Assistant / Nurse Practitioner.

 

3.       To work with the hospital team in the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.  To carry out duties as delegated to facilitate the smooth running of the hospital.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Clinical

 

1.       To assist in the delivery of patient care by engaging in tasks as delegated by the registered Nurse Practitioner or as indicated by the patient’s individual care plan.  To assist in all aspects of personal care, toileting, dressing, eating, personal hygiene and intimate personal care.

 

2.       To assist the registered Nurse Practitioner in the assessment, monitoring and evaluation of patient’s conditions, by reporting any changes and observations.

 

3.       To assist the registered Nurse Practitioner involved with supporting the patient with their daily requirements for:

·         Physical and psychological support

·         Occupational therapy

·         Recreational and social activities

·         Any other therapeutic interventions

 

4.       To ensure that any relevant documentation and reports i.e. care plans, diaries, health and safety and maintenance plans are carried out during a working shift.

 

5.       To promote therapeutic relationships, respecting the uniqueness of each patient, acting in a non-judgemental manner, promoting the rights of the individual at all times.

 

6.       To ensure that the highest quality of care is maintained at all times and to consistently display a courteous and helpful manner.  To maintain the units cleanliness for staff and patients.

 

7.       To contribute appropriately to effective communication with patients, significant others and members of the multidisciplinary team and to promote good working relationships within the staff team and the community.

 

8.       To ensure that due regard is given to patients’ customs, values, culture, religious and spiritual beliefs, always acting in a facilitative manner that promotes patients dignity, independence and choice.

 

General

 

1.       To ensure that all information received, is dealt with in accordance with Brookdale Care policies, ensuring patient confidentiality at all times.

 

2.       To assist with maintaining a safe and healthy environment, consistently demonstrating safe practice, both within the hospital and when escorting patients off site for activities or other visits.

 

3.       To remove all cutlery and crockery from patient’s rooms and report any missing items or report any problems/issues.

 

4.       To report any maintenance, health and safety issues to a member of the management team.

 

5.       To assist with general administration duties including photocopying,    inter-hospital deliveries, filing.

 

6.       To be aware of the financial constraints affecting the service and to assist with effective stock control, ordering the use of hospital resource.

 

7.       To assist the hospital team with stock control and ensuring that equipment is fit for purpose, reporting any faults to the Unit Manager in a timely and appropriate manner.

 

8.       To be flexible in duties as requested by the Hospital and to cover shifts through any shortfalls i.e. staff sickness.

 

9.       To administer petty cash efficiently as directed by the Unit Manager / Senior Nurse Practitioner / Nurse Practitioner in accordance with the financial procedures within the Unit and across the Hospital.

 

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:

 

1.       To discuss one’s own development needs with your line manager, in order to consistently achieve best practice and continuously improve personal performance.

 

2.       To attend relevant study days/courses as agreed by the Unit Manager and Head of Independent Hospitals in accordance with one’s personal development plan.

 

3.       Develop one’s own knowledge by meeting targets agreed with the Unit Manager within the desired timeframe.

 

4.       Participate in hospital meetings, staff / unit meetings and initiatives, providing the necessary contribution for effective team working.

 

OTHER:

 

·         To develop and maintain positive relationships with external agencies who have contact with Brookdale Care acting in the best interest of the Business and it’s clients at all times

 

·         To attend any training courses relevant to the post as agreed with the post holders line manager.

 

·         To work in accordance and have knowledge of Brookdale Care’s policies and procedures, contributing as appropriate to the revision of these documents.

 

·         To ensure the highest level of confidentiality at all times when dealing with sensitive material and information.  To respect the dignity and confidentiality of our patients at all times.
