Location: Milton Park Hospital, Bedfordshire

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POST TITLE:   Occupational Therapist

RESPONSIBLE TO:   Occupational Therapist Day Centre Manager

ACCOUNTABLE TO:  Head of Independent Hospitals

HOURS:  37.5 hours per week. 

SALARY:   Up to £27,000 Dependant on experience                       

 

AIMS:

 To work within the clinical team to provide a high quality responsive service to patients whilst maintaining their respect and dignity at all times.

To ensure that the aims and objectives of the hospital are met at all times and to undertake direct or indirect care to a group of patients or a patient, as part of the team, under the supervision of the Head of the MDT.

To work with the hospital team in the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment for patients. To carry out duties as delegated to facilitate the smooth running of the hospital.

 PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical

To provide professional guidance and advice on assessing patient’s skills and difficulties that will help them to achieve maximum independence in all areas of their lives

To help design and organise activity programmes that will develop the physical, psychological, environmental and social skills appropriate to the patients abilities and needs.

To review activity programmes to determine their appropriateness and success ensuring they remain effective and stand up to clinical scrutiny.

To help create and resource environments where patients will be encouraged to promote functions such as personal care, domestic/daily living activities, work and leisure.

To establish an effective professional working relationship with the members of the Day Centre Team as well as the Multi-Disciplinary team (MDT)

To maintain effective clinical notes and documentation, ensuring that other professional colleagues are advised and consulted on a need to know basis.

To promote therapeutic relationships, respecting the uniqueness of each patient in a non-judgemental way, promoting the rights of the individual at all times.

To advise or contribute to pre-admission assessments and discharge assessments to identify on-going needs to inform continuing treatment plans and needs. Liaising where appropriate with other agencies, professional s and carers.
