This is what students have said about their experience with us:
This Placement has given me a very valuable experience and has greatly inspired me towards my career in Mental Health Nursing. It has considerably improved my skills and ideas of the nursing process and interventions in all aspects of a person’s health. Support from all levels of staff and the whole MDT have been particularly positive.
Carla, Student Mental Health Nurse
Undertaking a placement at Milton Park Hospital provides an invaluable experience for anyone interested in social work with adults. As a social work student at Milton Park, I have been able to make direct links between the theoretical aspects of training at university with the practical implications within the workplace.
The opportunity to work with a wide range of professionals within the hospital greatly contributes to students' understanding of the importance of collaborative and inter-professional practice for the benefit of those receiving our services. Support workers, nurses, doctors, psychologists and speech and language therapists are among the range of professionals I have been able to work with and learn from here.
The direct daily interaction I have with patients is crucial for my understanding of their needs, which can be complex, and it is rewarding to be able to build rapport with the individuals I work with. I am now taking on specific tasks where I am able to make a difference to the patients' daily experiences within Milton Park and promote their independence.
The placement provides a great opportunity to learn about the legislative framework, for instance, how the Mental Health Act underpins the daily work of all staff within the hospital. I am also learning a great deal about a range of person-centred therapeutic approaches which work best for adults with autism / mental health conditions. Milton Park Hospital is a welcoming place, where the staff are extremely supportive towards the service users and one-another and I feel privileged to be a part of the team.
