Koestler Awards 2015

The Koestler award is the UK’s best known prison and secure services arts award. The awards receive over 8,000 entries a year - inspiring patients to take part in the arts, work for achievement and transform their lives.

At Brookdale we have been encouraging patients to enter the awards since 2009. Deborah Hancock is our Art and Wellbeing Practitioner and helps support, engage and encourage our residents to be creative in this area.

The results have just come out, and it’s been a bumper year for Brookdale Care. We have THREE winners; not only that, but they have achieved the highest awards during the seven years we’ve taken part in the competition!

Congratulations go to the following patients for their amazing artwork:
RC – from Ashwood Gardens received a ‘Platinum Award’ and £100 for her print ‘Fire Horse’

DL – Gifford A received a Silver Award and £40 for his pastel drawing ‘Titan and Tiny’

KC – Ashwood Gardens received a Commended Award for her batik textile ‘Dream Garden’
We are so pleased for our 3 winners and we want to say a big congratulations from everyone at Brookdale. The Koestler award has and is continuing to give our residents an interest and a passion for art and we can’t wait to see what wonderful pieces they will create for next year.
